It is more forgiving than paint as far as rock chips go, and it would protect your original paint from small rock chips, uv, road debris, tree sap, etc. but it won't replace paint. It will never shine like paint, you cannot sand and buff it. It does however have a very good shine, you can apply it in any dust free enviornment and you can re-wrap panels easily if they get damaged. I am going to do some tests to see how much it can be polished. I am going to lay some down, scratch it with some sandpaper and try some different polishing compounds and techniques to see how well it stands up. One other thing to keep in mind is these premium cast vinyls have what's call air egress channels for easier install. The downfall of this is that it leaves a slight texture to the surface almost like orange peel. The rep for Oracal said this would go away as the adhesive "wets" in the sun, but it does not. It gets considerably less but never seems to completely go away. There are also limitations to it's stetchability. I had to cover the fascia in 3 passes as 1 pass would not go into all the crevises. You also cannot change the color of your vehicle with it because you cannot get it reverse stretch into door jams very well. For me it was a perfect because I can readily get the material, I am an experienced installed and my paint was in good condition, it was just 2 shades of black where some repair work had been done before i owned it. I also was able to wrap my side skirts and fascia right away and install them.
